The Yoshino cherry (Prunus x yedoensis) is an upright, spreading small tree that produces white flowers arranged in clusters with a light fragrance. They appear from the end of March to April. These produce black, round fruits. They are small and exude a light fragrance. The Yoshino cherry also has egg-shaped, medium green leaves. In a sunny, sheltered location with nutrient-rich, sandy, loamy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 10 metres and grows to around 7 metres wide.

The deciduous leaves of the Yoshino cherry are medium green, ovate, alternate. They are about 6 - 12 cm in size. Yoshino cherry turns bright orange in autumn.

Flower

The white flowers of Yoshino cherry appear in clusters from the end of March to April. They grow to around 3 - 4 cm and are slightly fragrant.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny, sheltered position.

Frost hardiness

The Yoshino cherry has good frost hardiness.

Care

Cut and saw wounds as well as broken branches should be treated with a wound sealant as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.
