The Balsam willow 'Mas' (Salix balsamifera) is an upright, branched shrub that produces greenish-yellow flowers arranged in catkins. They appear from March to April. The Balsam willow 'Mas' also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, loose, moist to wet soil, it usually reaches a height of around 2 metres and grows to around 2.5 metres wide.

Balsam willow 'Mas' is an upright and branching shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1.5 - 2 m and is approx. 1.5 - 2.5 m wide. It usually grows 30 - 50 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Salix balsamifera 'Mas' are yellow-green in colour.

The deciduous leaves of Balsam willow 'Mas' are dark green, ovate, alternate. They are about 5 - 12 cm in size.

Flower

The greenish-yellow flowers of Balsam willow 'Mas' appear in catkins from March to April. These grow to about 1 - 2 cm in size.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Balsam willow 'Mas' has good frost hardiness.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
