The Jet bead (Rhodotypos scandens) is a broad, loose shrub with decorative, black fruits that stay on for a very long time. It produces white, cup-shaped flowers from May to June. The Jet bead also has egg-shaped, medium-green leaves. In a sunny to shady location, it usually reaches a height of around 2 metres and grows to around 2 metres wide. The Jet bead makes no particular demands on the soil.

Growth

Jet bead is a broad and loose-growing shrub. It usually reaches a height of 1.5 - 2 m and is approx. 1.5 - 2 m wide. It usually grows 20 - 50 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Rhodotypos scandens are olive green.

leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Jet bead are medium green, ovate, opposite and serrated. They are about 4 - 10 cm in size.

Flower

The white, cupped flowers appear from May to June. These are about 4 - 5 cm in size.

Fruit

The black drupes of Rhodotypos scandens are particularly decorative. These appear from July and are very long-lasting.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Jet bead has good frost hardiness.

No special requirements.

Hedge (pruning), solitary, ornamental shrub

Water

The plant has a medium water requirement.

Care

If watered less frequently but thoroughly and thoroughly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
