The Hop hornbeam (Ostrya carpinifolia) is a roundish tree with decorative, light brown fruits. It produces yellow flowers arranged in catkins from the end of March to May. The Hop hornbeam also has egg-shaped, dark green leaves. In a sunny, sheltered location with calcareous, nutrient-rich, sandy soil, it usually reaches a height of around 20 metres and grows to a width of around 15 metres.
