The Japanese cherry 'Kanzan' (Prunus serrulata) is an upright, funnel-shaped small tree that produces pink, cup-shaped flowers. They appear in May. The Japanese cherry 'Kanzan' also has shiny, egg-shaped, dark green leaves. The bronze-coloured shoots are also an interesting sight. Its bark is reddish-brown and fissured in strips. In a sunny location with calcareous, loose soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 10 metres and grows to a width of approx. 8 metres.

Growth

Japanese cherry 'Kanzan' is an upright and funnel-shaped small tree. It usually reaches a height of 7 - 10 m and is approx. 5 - 8 m wide. Rapidly growing. It usually grows 20 - 30 cm per year.

The deciduous leaves of the Japanese cherry 'Kanzan' are dark green, ovate, glossy, alternate, serrated. They are about 8 - 12 cm tall. Bronze-coloured shoots. Japanese cherry 'Kanzan' turns bright yellow-red in autumn.

Bark

Red-brown, striped, torn bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The pink-coloured, cupped flowers are very double and appear in May.

Prunus serrulata 'Kanzan' is a deep-rooting plant.

Preferred location in a sunny position.

The Japanese cherry 'Kanzan' has good frost hardiness.

Care
