The Carolina rose (Rosa) is a rich-flowering rose that plays a special role in the garden but also on the balcony or terrace. The numerous flowers are light pink and appear from July to August. Their delicate fragrance unfolds particularly on sunny, warm days. With its upright and dense growth, this small shrub grows up to 1.5 metres tall and 2 metres wide.

Growth

Carolina rose is an upright and densely growing small shrub that can reach a height of 1 - 1.5 m and a width of 1 - 2 m. It usually grows 20 - 40 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Rosa carolina are spiny, red-brown in colour.

leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Carolina rose are medium green, pinnate and alternate. They are about 6 - 10 cm in size. Carolina rose turns bright orange-red in autumn.

Flower

The light pink, cupped flowers of Carolina rose appear in clusters from July to August. They grow to around 4 - 5 cm and are slightly fragrant.

Fruit

The round fruits of Rosa carolina are particularly decorative. These appear from October. Adhere for a very long time.

Stoloniferous.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Carolina rose has good frost hardiness.

No special requirements.

Use

Tubs, cutting, group planting, cottage garden

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

- Parts of the plant infected with mildew must be cut off, otherwise the disease can spread further. To prevent new infections, the rose can be treated with appropriate fungicides.
- If infected with star sooty mould, all diseased leaves (black spots) should be removed. If necessary, treatment with suitable fungicides is also recommended.
- To encourage the formation of new flower buds, wilted flowers should always be cut back to the next fully formed leaf.
- Roses should never be planted where roses have already been growing. If no other planting site is available, the soil should be generously replaced.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
