Recipes with Roses

Roses are often called the "Queen of Flowers." They are likely the most sold flower variety and have an above-average level of recognition. They bloom in almost every garden and impress with their great diversity.

Die kulinarische Besonderheit

But roses aren't just for looking pretty; they're also a fantastic culinary ingredient, and their scent isn't only found in perfumes. Let's explore some recipes that show off the versatility of roses in the kitchen!

As Decoration
Roses are popular as decoration for cakes, desserts, and much more. They can be made from marzipan or other materials, but even a real rose can be treated to be a special garnish for dishes.

For candied roses, harvest flower heads from unsprayed roses and wash them gently. Pat them dry with paper towels, then lightly beat an egg white with a fork. Use a pastry brush to apply the egg white to the petals, then sprinkle them with sugar or dip them into it. Lay the roses on a baking sheet and dry them in an oven for one hour at 50 degrees Celsius (122°F).

Rose Tea Liqueur
Steep about 150 grams of fruit tea and the upper halves of rose petals (from approx. 3 blooms) in 1.5 liters of water; do not boil. Stir in 1 kilogram of rock sugar, 40 grams of citric acid, and one lemon. Let this mixture steep for 24 hours, then mix with a bottle of vodka. This blend tastes especially good as an addition to sparkling wine.

Rose Vinegar
For this, take 250 ml of white wine vinegar and four handfuls of unsprayed, fragrant rose petals. Bring this liquid to a boil. Then, stir in one tablespoon of honey and let the mixture steep for two weeks.

Rose Syrup
To make rose syrup, boil one liter of water with one kilogram of sugar. Fill a large glass jar (approx. 1 liter) with rose petals. Wash two lemons thoroughly with hot water, slice them, and add them to the sugar solution. Also, add one tablespoon of citric acid. This mixture needs to be covered and steeped in a cool place for about 6 days. After straining, pour into warm, dry bottles.

Rose Petal Cocktail
The Rose Petal Cocktail is a refreshing summer drink for your garden party. Pour 2 cl of rose syrup and 2 cl of Grand Marnier into chilled glasses. Top it off with sparkling wine and add a few rose petals for garnish. Served immediately, this drink looks magnificent and tastes wonderfully like summer.
