The Smoke bush (Cotinus coggygria) is a sprawling large shrub with decorative, light brown fruits. It produces greenish-yellow flowers arranged in panicles from June to July. The Smoke bush also has egg-shaped, medium-green leaves. In a sunny location, it usually reaches a height of around 5 metres and is around 5 metres wide. The Smoke bush makes no particular demands on the soil.

The deciduous leaves of the Smoke bushs are medium green, ovate, alternate. They are about 3 - 8 cm in size. Smoke bush is bright orange-yellow to scarlet-red in autumn.

Bark

Red-brown, fielded bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The greenish-yellow flowers of Smoke bush appear in panicles from June to July. These grow to about 15 - 20 cm tall.

Fruit

The light brown fruits of Cotinus coggygria are particularly decorative. These appear from August.

Cotinus coggygria is a shallow-rooting plant.
