It’s time: spring cleaning in the garden

When the snow finally melts, the sun begins to shine more, and the first birds start chirping, then spring is here and calls us to finally go back into the garden. During the winter, a bit of clutter has built up that now needs to be dealt with.

The obligatory spring cleaning isn’t just for the living room and such, but also for the terrace, balcony, and flowerbeds. The new gardening season is starting, and when garden centers tempt with colorful offers, it’s hard to resist the arrival of spring.

Time to go outside!

The first spring days can already be wonderfully spent outdoors in the sunshine. The sun tickles your nose, and your fingers tingle because the gardening season is finally beginning again. Right after the last snow has melted, the garden can be prepared for the new season. If the garden is to be redesigned, new paths and flowerbeds can already be created now. Ponds and water features can also be planned and built as soon as the soil is no longer frozen. Anyone building a garden house now can enjoy the new little house in the garden throughout the season, and an early terrace will make the first barbecue much more enjoyable. Because once the sun is out, the first bratwurst from the grill tastes fantastic after a job well done in the garden!

Spring cleaning time!

Not only the plants indoors need to be freed from winter dust in spring, but the garden also needs to breathe again after frost and ice. The first step is to remove the old autumn leaves. During the winter, they protected the delicate plants from the cold temperatures, but now they have become a burden and need to be cleared from the beds. After that, the soil can be loosened. The lawns can also be walked on again and should be cleared of the old leaves. Afterward, the garden will look fresher, and a first inspection will give an idea of the tasks ahead. As soon as the temperatures consistently stay above 5 degrees, pruning can be done in spring, and a first application of compost will enrich depleted beds with new nutrients.

New residents, please!

Spring is not only the time to remove winter dirt: Spring is especially planting time. And that time is just around the corner. Perennial beds can already be created now, which will not only look fantastic in the summer but, with the right plant selection, will also serve as a nectar paradise for bees and other insects. If you own a greenhouse, you can start sowing the first crops as early as February. This ensures an early and abundant harvest. Berry and ornamental shrubs can also be propagated through cuttings now. This will bring many new additions to the garden in spring and create a beautiful garden in the summer. So, get out into the garden! Spring is calling!
