The Genius Among Houseplants – The Spider Plant

The spider plant is one of the most popular houseplants. No wonder, as it is relatively low-maintenance and a very useful companion.

The plant with multicolored leaves is truly a valuable addition among houseplants, and the spider plant can be quickly and very easily propagated.

The plant air purifier

Like other plants, the spider plant can filter pollutants from the indoor air. Pollutants from building materials are well-known, but even furniture and other household items can release substances that significantly worsen the air quality. So, it's a great idea to combine beauty with practicality and improve the air by placing multiple spider plants in the room. Another benefit of this clean plant: the spider plant is a dust catcher. Dust settles on its elongated leaves, and with a weekly rinse, the spider plant is not only clean and ready for use again but also refreshed with fresh water.

Low-maintenance houseplant

From spring to late summer, the spider plant goes through a growth phase, almost like its "puberty." During this time, it should be watered regularly. Otherwise, the spider plant has a normal water consumption, and thanks to its water-storing roots, it can also survive a dry spell or two. The plant particularly thrives in a bright spot with partial shade. Direct sunlight can cause brown tips on the leaves.

A true master of propagation

Propagating houseplants isn't always easy, but with the spider plant, it almost happens on its own. The spider plant produces long shoots called "pups." Small new spider plants grow at the ends of these shoots, which can simply be cut off and placed in water. Once roots have formed on the cutting, it can be transplanted into potting soil. This way, new spider plants are continually created, and the trailing shoots make the plant a popular hanging plant.
