The Amur maple (Acer ginnala) is a multi-stemmed large shrub or small tree with decorative, red winged fruits. It produces green-white flowers arranged in umbels in May. The Amur maple also has dark green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, lime-free, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 7 metres and grows to a width of around 8 metres.

The deciduous leaves of the Amur maples are dark green, opposite, lobed. They are about 4 - 8 cm in size. Amur maple turns a bright scarlet red in autumn.

Bark

Red-brown bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The green-white flowers of Amur maple appear in umbels in May.

Fruit

The red fruits of Acer ginnala are particularly decorative.

Root

Acer ginnala is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
