The Red maple 'Red Sunset' (Acer rubrum) is a small pyramidal tree that produces dark red flowers arranged in clusters. These produce brown winged fruits. The Red maple 'Red Sunset' also has leathery, medium green leaves. Its bark is grey. In a sunny, sheltered location with lime-free, nutrient-rich, moist to wet, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of around 15 metres and grows to a width of around 10 metres.

Red maple 'Red Sunset' is a small pyramidal tree with a closed, opaque crown. It usually reaches a height of 10 - 15 m and is approx. 90 - 10 m wide. As a rule, it grows 30 - 40 cm per year.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Red maple 'Red Sunset's are medium green, leathery, opposite, lobed. They are about 6 - 10 cm in size. Red maple 'Red Sunset' turns bright orange-red in autumn.

Bark

Grey bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Root

Acer rubrum 'Red Sunset' is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny, sheltered position.
