The Common beech 'Purpurea Latifolia' (Fagus sylvatica) is a roundish, deciduous large tree with decorative, egg-shaped, black-red leaves. The dark red shoots are also an interesting sight. It also bears red-yellow flowers in May. These produce brown fruits from September. In a sunny location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 30 metres and grows to a width of around 30 metres.
