'Pagode' is a striking cultivar of Featherleaf Rodgersia, prized for its robust, architectural form and distinctive, deeply lobed, bronze-green leaves that mature to a rich green. Its upright, conical plumes of creamy white flowers add dramatic vertical interest to shaded, moist garden areas, creating a truly majestic presence.

Growth

A robust, upright, clump-forming herbaceous perennial. It typically reaches 90-120 cm (3-4 feet) in height and 60-90 cm (2-3 feet) in spread, forming a bold, architectural presence.

Leaf

Large, palmate leaves, deeply cut into lobes, resembling a duck's foot. They emerge a striking bronze-green, maturing to a rich, deep green in summer and often developing bronze to reddish tones in autumn.

Flower

Produces tall, conical, creamy white flower plumes held well above the foliage. Blooms from early to mid-summer (June-July).

Location

Thrives best in partial to full shade, especially protection from hot afternoon sun. Requires a sheltered spot.

Frost hardiness

Excellent (USDA Zones 5-8), very cold-hardy.

Soil

Prefers consistently moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. It thrives in boggy or damp conditions and dislikes drying out.

Water

Has a high water requirement. Needs consistently moist soil; avoid letting it dry out, especially in summer.

Use

Ideal for woodland gardens, shaded borders, near ponds or streams, or as a bold specimen plant in a moist, shady spot. Excellent for adding texture and architectural interest.

Care

Low maintenance. Protect from slugs and snails in spring. Remove spent flower stalks after blooming. Cut back old foliage in late autumn or early spring.

Planting time

Best planted in autumn or early spring.
