The Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) is a carpet-like, winter-green perennial that produces white, wheel-shaped flowers with a pleasant fragrance from June to September. Its pinnate leaves are medium green. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 20 cm and is approx. 35 cm wide. The Roman chamomile is well tolerant of frost.

The wintergreen leaves of the Roman chamomile are medium green, pinnate.

Flower

Suitable for consumption. Chamaemelum nobile forms wheel-shaped, white flowers from June. These exude a pleasant fragrance.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Roman chamomile has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Normal soil.

Use

Group planting, rock garden, bee pasture, ground cover, edible, medicinal plant, scented garden

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

- If the plant is divided every 2-3 years and weak roots and shoots are removed, the reward is better growth and flowering vigour!
- If the plant is watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.

The Roman chamomile sets beautiful accents together with:
Short-spur columbine, Caucasian catmint, oregano.

Planting: Autumn, depending on variety also in spring.
