'Europa Gold' is a striking, evergreen conifer celebrated for its vibrant golden foliage. It maintains an upright, conical habit, offering year-round color and a formal touch to various garden settings, especially effective for screening.

Growth

An upright, narrowly conical, evergreen conifer. It typically grows to 3-5 meters (10-15 feet) in height and 1-1.5 meters (3-5 feet) in spread over many years, with a slow to medium growth rate.

Leaf

Features dense, scale-like foliage that is bright golden-yellow in spring and summer. In winter, the color intensifies to a vibrant orange-gold or bronze-gold, providing excellent seasonal interest.

Flower

This plant is primarily grown for its foliage; its flowers are inconspicuous and not a significant ornamental feature.

Location

Thrives best in full sun for optimal color development. It can tolerate partial shade, but the golden hue may be less intense.

Frost hardiness

Excellent (USDA Zones 4-8), making it very cold-hardy and suitable for most temperate climates.

Soil

Prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil. It adapts to a range of soil types but dislikes excessively dry or waterlogged conditions.

Water

Has a medium water requirement. It benefits from regular watering, especially during dry periods and in its establishment phase, but is moderately drought-tolerant once mature.

Use

Ideal for formal hedges, screens, vertical accents, or as a striking specimen plant. Its narrow form makes it suitable for smaller gardens or where space is limited.

Care

Low maintenance. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. Avoid cutting into old, bare wood, as it may not regenerate. Protect young plants from harsh winter winds.

Planting time

Best planted in autumn or early spring.
