'Adianthifolium' is a delicate and ornamental Meadow Rue, primarily valued for its exquisite, finely divided foliage that resembles a maidenhair fern. Its airy texture and bluish-green leaves offer unique beauty and contrast in garden settings.

Growth

An upright, clump-forming herbaceous perennial, forming a dense, graceful clump. It typically reaches 30-60 cm (12-24 inches) in height and 20-50 cm (8-20 inches) in spread.

Leaf

Deciduous, very finely divided, and fern-like. The bluish-green compound leaves resemble those of a maidenhair fern, providing significant textural interest from spring through autumn.

Flower

Produces loose, airy sprays of small, nodding, greenish-yellow to yellowish-brown flowers on delicate stems above the foliage. It blooms from June to August, adding a subtle, ethereal appearance.

Location

Thrives best in partial shade to full shade. It can tolerate full sun if consistently moist and protected from hot afternoon sun.

Frost hardiness

Excellent (USDA Zones 4-9), indicating it is very cold-hardy.

Soil

Prefers moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. It tolerates various soil types, including clay, but good drainage is crucial.

Water

Has a medium water requirement, appreciating consistent moisture. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely.

Use

Ideal for woodland gardens, shade gardens, cottage gardens, or as a foliage plant to add fine texture. Its delicate nature makes it a good "see-through" plant in mixed beds.

Care

Low maintenance. No significant pruning is required. Cut back old foliage in late autumn or early spring. It can be divided in spring for propagation or rejuvenation.

Planting time

Best planted in autumn or early spring.
