The Siberian Iris 'Snow Queen' is a graceful perennial that adds an elegant touch to borders and moist areas with its pure white flowers and fine texture. It's a low-maintenance and very robust plant.

Growth

Upright, clump-forming. Reaches a height of approx. 0.6 - 1.0 m (2-3.3 ft) and spreads about 0.4 - 0.6 m (1.3-2 ft) wide.

Leaf

Deciduous, narrow, sword-shaped, and an attractive blue-green. They form dense clumps.

Flower

Elegant, pure white, flag-like flowers with a golden-yellow throat. They appear profusely from May to July.

Location

Prefers full sun to partial shade.

Frost hardiness

Very good frost hardiness (down to approx. -29°C, USDA Zone 3). Reliably overwinters outdoors.

Soil

Moist to fresh, well-drained, humus-rich, and nutrient-rich soil. Tolerates acidic to neutral soils. Prefers moist but not waterlogged conditions.

Use

Ideal for perennial borders, moist meadows, pond edges, stream banks, and as a cut flower. Also very effective in mass plantings.

Water

Medium to high water requirement. The soil should be kept consistently moist, especially during the blooming period and dry spells.

Care

Very low maintenance. Spent flower stalks can be removed after blooming. Dividing established clumps every few years in late summer/early autumn promotes vigor.

Planting time

Containerized plants can be planted year-round, except when the ground is frozen. However, the best planting time is spring or autumn.

Others

Iris rhizomes can be poisonous if ingested.
