With its dark green leaves, the Water plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica) is an extremely decorative aquatic plant that is particularly suitable for use in ponds, aquariums, bee pastures and pond edges. Light pink-coloured flowers appear from June to August. It prefers humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil in a sunny to semi-shady position. The Water plantain is well tolerant of frost. The upright, clump-forming plant usually reaches a height of approx. 1 metre.

The deciduous leaves of the Common Water Plantain are dark green and lanceolate.

Flowers

The light pink flowers of the Common Water Plantain appear in panicles from June to August.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to partially shaded position.

The Common Water Plantain has good frost resistance.

Soil

Normal soil.

Uses

Pond, aquarium, bee pasture, pond edge.

Care

The faded flower stems should be pruned. This measure promotes new growth.
