Garden pond made easy - here's how it works!

It's not even that difficult to create a garden pond. A garden pond beautifies any garden and is an oasis of peace and relaxation. Depending on your taste, a beautiful garden bench can then be added. A lovely garden pond creates the perfect conditions for a rich diversity of flora and fauna. With careful planning, the realization is quickly done. First of all, you should think about how large the garden pond should be. Based on this, you then purchase the necessary materials, and you're ready to go.

The step-by-step guide to a perfect garden Pond

With the planning and the necessary materials purchased, you can start creating the pond. The pond's location in the garden should ideally be within view of the terrace or another seating area, as the garden pond is ultimately meant to please the eye. Otherwise, a garden bench makes sense. If the property is not level but has a slope, the garden pond should be created in a lower area. This is where the pond looks its best. However, if the pond is intended to attract wildlife naturally, a secluded spot in the garden is best. The right mix of sun and shade is very important for a garden pond. On the one hand, aquatic plants need enough sun for their growth, but on the other hand, the water should not be heated too much by sunlight, as this would otherwise excessively promote algae growth. About five hours of sunshine per day is ideal for a garden pond. Intense midday heat with strong sunlight is not good for it. Therefore, care should be taken that the pond is shaded by a shade sail or woody plants during this time, at least partially.

What else to consider when creating it

Pipes for electricity, gas, or water should definitely not run under a garden pond, as this could lead to problems during repair work. Trees and shrubs with shallow roots should not be in the immediate vicinity of a garden pond. Especially the hard bamboo rhizomes could otherwise easily destroy the pond liner. Due to falling leaves, trees should generally be planted east of the garden pond. Otherwise, you'll just have unnecessary extra work. The shape of a garden pond also plays a crucial role and should blend in with the other shapes in the garden. If there are more curved shapes in the garden, a corresponding shape is recommended for the pond. However, if the garden is more architecturally designed with clear lines, elliptical, circular, or angular shapes are recommended. In general, larger garden ponds look more beautiful and radiate more tranquility. Moreover, the ecological balance is established more quickly in larger garden ponds, so that the necessary maintenance effort is kept within limits. It should also be noted that a building permit is required from about 100 cubic meters. However, this is handled differently from state to state. If you are unsure, you should definitely inquire before creating the pond. Garden ponds that are lined with a finished plastic basin are also easy to realize for beginners. However, this type of garden pond must be completely overhauled at least every five years because the sludge must be removed due to the water quality and the size.
