The Common beech 'Purpurea' (Fagus sylvatica) is an upright, broad, deciduous large tree with decorative, egg-shaped, black-red leaves. The dark red shoots are also an interesting sight. It also produces brown fruit from September. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of around 30 metres and grows to a width of around 30 metres.
