With its medium green leaves, the Common mare's tail (Hippuris vulgaris) is an extremely decorative aquatic plant that is particularly suitable for areas such as pond edges, streams and ponds. Green flowers appear from July to August. It prefers humusy, calcareous, nutrient-rich, moist to wet soil in a sunny to semi-shady position. The Common mare's tail is well tolerant of frost. The upright, runner-forming, creeping plant usually reaches a height of approx. 40 cm.
