The Big tree (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is a large tree that grows upright in a conical shape and usually reaches a height of around 50 metres and a width of around 12 metres. Its scale-like leaves are blue-green in colour. This shrub is well tolerant of frost and prefers nutrient-rich, sandy, loamy soil in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Big tree is a conical and upright growing large tree with a translucent crown. It usually reaches a height of 30 - 50 m and is approx. 8 - 12 m wide. As a rule, it grows 50 - 70 cm per year.

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- Cut and saw wounds as well as broken branches should be treated with a wound sealant as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.
- This plant does not tolerate heavy soil. If necessary, the soil structure can be improved when planting by working in sand and mature compost.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
