The Common sorrel (Rumex rugosus) is an acidic, tart-tasting vegetable plant. Its leaves can be harvested as soon as it has reached approx. 40 cm. A sunny location and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil are required for optimum growth of Common sorrel.

Upright, clump-forming.

Suitable for consumption. The dark green, whole-edged leaves are lanceolate and have a tart, acidic flavour.
With the right care, the plant can be harvested from June.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Soil

Prefers humus-rich soil.

Use

Farm garden, vegetable garden, consumption, salad, sauce/dip, medicinal plant

Water

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

It is advisable to dig irrigation trenches between the rows, as many vegetables should not be watered from above. Also: Regular weeding prevents weeds from taking over the vegetables.
