The Raspberry 'Malling Promise' (Rubus idaeus) produces dark red, large berries. These are soft and tart in flavour. Well-drained, nutrient-rich soil and a sunny to semi-shady location create the ideal conditions for a high-yielding harvest from mid-August. Its white flowers are a beautiful sight.

Growth

Raspberry 'Malling Promise' is an upright and overhanging shrub that can reach a height of 1.2 - 1.8 metres and a width of 0.8 - 1.2 metres. It usually grows 0.5 - 1 m per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Rubus idaeus 'Malling Promise' are spiny, red-brown in colour.

Leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Raspberry 'Malling Promise' are light green, pinnate, alternate, serrated. They are about 3 - 10 cm in size.

Flower

The white, cupped flowers of Raspberry 'Malling Promise' appear in clusters from May to July.

Fruit

The dark red, large berries have a tart flavour. The flesh of these blunt cone-shaped berries is soft. Ripening time from mid-August.

Root

Rubus idaeus 'Malling Promise' is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms runner-forming roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Raspberry 'Malling Promise' has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Rubus idaeus 'Malling Promise' prefers nutrient-rich, sufficiently moist soil.
