The Japanese rose 'Hansa' (Rosa) is a rich-flowering rose that plays a special role in the garden. The numerous double flowers are magenta in colour and appear from June to October. Their intense fragrance unfolds particularly on sunny, warm days. This shrub grows up to 2 metres tall and 1 metre wide with an upright and tight habit.

Japan to northern China.

Growth

Japanese rose 'Hansa' is an upright and tightly growing shrub that can reach a height of 1.5 - 2 m and a width of 0.8 - 1 m. It usually grows 20 - 30 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Rosa rugosa 'Hansa' are spiny.

leaves

The deciduous leaves of the Japanese rose 'Hansa' are dark green, pinnate, glossy and alternate. They are about 8 - 15 cm in size. Japanese rose 'Hansa' turns a bright golden yellow in autumn.

Flower

The magenta-coloured, cupped flowers are double and appear from June to October. They grow to around 6 - 8 cm and are very fragrant.

Fruit

The round fruits of Rosa rugosa 'Hansa' are particularly decorative. These appear from October.

Root

Rosa rugosa 'Hansa' is a taproot and, depending on the soil, forms spreading, branching, runner-forming roots.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Japanese rose 'Hansa' has good frost hardiness.

No special requirements.

Use

Group planting, bee pasture, hedge, bird food plant, jam, liqueur

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Pruning

Pruning, ideally from March to April, is advisable for this plant.
