The Japanese holly (Ilex crenata) is an upright shrub with decorative, black fruits that stay on for a very long time. It produces creamy white flowers from May to June. The Japanese holly also has roundish, medium green leaves. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, loose, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 3.5 metres and grows to a width of approx. 2 metres.

The evergreen leaves of the Japanese holly are medium green, roundish, alternate. They are about 2 - 3 cm in size.

The creamy white flowers appear from May to June.

The black fruits of Ilex crenata are particularly decorative. Adhere for a very long time.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.
