The Turkish hazel (Corylus colurna) is a conical small tree with decorative, brown, round nuts. It produces greenish-yellow flowers arranged in catkins from March to April. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, calcareous, weakly acidic soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 18 metres and grows to a width of approx. 12 metres.

The greenish-yellow flowers of Turkish hazel appear in catkins from March to April.

Corylus colurna is a heartroot and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

The Turkish hazel has good frost hardiness.

Care

Cut and saw wounds as well as broken branches should be treated with a wound sealant as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the soil is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
