Birdhouses and Bird Baths

Birds in Your Garden All Year Round

If you love your garden, you probably appreciate its animal residents too, especially when they bring life to the space, get rid of pests, and delight us with their songs. To encourage many feathered guests to feel at home in your garden, you can set up birdhouses, bird feeders, and bird baths. This way, you'll attract birds not just in winter when it's icy and snowy, but all year long.

Birds particularly enjoy a refreshing bath and a good drink in the summer. During prolonged dry spells, which are common in southern Germany, it can be very difficult for birds to find a water source.

Protection from Dogs and Cats

Especially in larger gardens, it makes sense to set up not just one birdhouse or a single bird bath, but several. Not only are these proven aids for birds, but they're also exceptionally decorative. You could spend hours watching numerous birds gather around them, bathing, drinking, and feeding.

Always place your bird spas and hotels so you have a convenient view of them. However, when setting them up, make sure that cats and dogs don't have access; otherwise, what started as a good intention can quickly turn bad for your feathered guests.

For this reason, birdhouses and baths are usually mounted on poles or stakes, as this makes hunting more difficult for four-legged predators. It's also possible to hang birdhouses and baths. Whether from a strong branch, under a balcony, or on a house wall, a suspended birdhouse always looks great.

If you enjoy DIY, you can build a birdhouse or bath yourself with relatively little effort. A birdhouse can be quickly fashioned from cut old boards, branches, bark, or other materials. Whether left natural or painted in bright colors, it will bring you many years of joy. When constructing it, however, ensure the birdhouse can be opened and is easy to clean. This way, your birds will always have a hygienically safe home in your garden.

For a quick and easy bird bath, simply fill a waterproof pot saucer with water and place it securely.
