Easy-Going Garden – How to Make Your Garden Low-Maintenance.

Gardening is fun, but whoever comes home after a stressful workday will certainly also be happy to simply relax in the garden instead of weeding or getting overgrown plants under control.

Every garden can be kept low-maintenance. Provided it was designed to be low-maintenance from the start. Because preparation and planning are particularly important if you don't want your own garden to become a high-maintenance burden. The right plants are crucial here.

It begins with the layout...

Of course, a garden initially involves work when you create it. But whoever lays out the garden correctly can save themselves a lot of work later and almost completely leave the garden's upkeep to nature itself. Then you only need to lend a hand yourself every now and then and do small tasks. To make this work, the flower beds should be as small and narrow as possible. This makes it easier to reach the individual plants, and weeding won't become an acrobatic feat. If you mix natural minerals into the garden soil before planting, you'll add extra nutrients to the soil, which can prevent the need for some extra watering. Additional self-watering systems then ensure that watering doesn't become a strenuous task, especially in summer, and no watering can has to be dragged through the garden.

...continues with the plants...

Whoever is designing or newly creating their garden has a choice between countless different plants. There's actually something for every taste. But whoever wants a low-maintenance garden should rely on very specific plants and avoid some others. Plants that tend to overgrow the flower bed and spread rapidly don't belong in a low-maintenance garden. While this is good for filling gaps, it creates a lot of work if the plants are to be kept under control. Native plants are particularly well-suited for a low-maintenance garden because they usually don't need much care, are adapted to the climate, and therefore don't need to be brought indoors in winter.

...and ends with relaxation

To really relax and lean back in your own garden, you naturally need the right furniture for it. Whoever chooses the right material and proper preparation from the start will enjoy their garden furniture for a long time without constantly having to rework it. Wooden furniture can be varnished so that moisture cannot penetrate and the furniture doesn't start to rot. Likewise, there are special care varnishes for metal furniture. Whether you choose metal or wood depends entirely on your personal taste. However, it's clear that garden furniture only provides proper relaxation when it's in good condition. If you don't want to put the furniture away in winter, you can cover it and thus ensure that it's not as susceptible to snow and ice as it would be without protection. With the right primer, the care of garden furniture becomes child's play.
