Wisteria floribunda 'Alba'

Whether in radiant blue, the most beautiful violet, or pure white, Wisteria Floribunda – or Japanese Wisteria – with its unique, vine-like mass of blossoms, is a highlight in any Japanese-inspired garden. Whether as a trained shrub or a standard tree, this wisteria is the crowning glory of any garden or park.

In total, Wisteria encompasses a species diversity of six to ten different woody plants.

From May to June, Wisteria floribunda 'Alba' bears its hanging flower clusters. The pleasant fragrance emanating from the blossoms is particularly noteworthy. The leaves of Wisteria species appear as alternately arranged foliage leaves and turn yellowish in autumn. They are odd-pinnate and develop entire pinnules. Additionally, wisteria species form small stipules. Besides the flowers, the way the woody plant grows is also very interesting: Wisteria floribunda 'Alba' is a fast-growing climbing plant. It becomes heavily lignified and is characterized by a twining stem.

Wisteria floribunda 'Alba' has a width of 4-6m and grows 6-8m high. It is a heat-tolerant, urban-climate-resistant, heat-loving, but late-frost-sensitive woody plant. Wisteria prefers a soil that is as permeable, sandy, acidic, and loamy as possible. Generally, sturdy wooden constructions are recommended as climbing aids on house walls or facades. However, some plants prefer slightly winding, parallel-arranged wire ropes as climbing aids.

As a container plant, Wisteria floribunda 'Alba' can be planted year-round, except when the ground is frozen or during summer heat above 30°C.
