Pumpkin Harvest

"Now it's here, the time of pumpkins. These colorful, artistic unique pieces are an ornament for garden and home. The fact that you can also eat them is a nice side effect.

The pumpkin is native to many regions and has been known for millennia. For example, the so-called garden pumpkin, which comes from Mexico. But today, the pumpkin is far more than just a vegetable. It serves as decoration and for games like pumpkin long toss, but has also inspired competitions in many places. For example, the record for the largest pumpkin ever harvested is about one ton. Many of the richly shaped varieties, by the way, are named after their appearance, such as the spaghetti squash or the pear squash."

Vibrant Autumn Decoration

As autumn decorations, pumpkins are particularly popular, and not just for Halloween. Together with corn cobs and heather, they adorn entrances and hallways, windowsills and front gardens. There are no limits to the imagination. They look very decorative, especially in wicker baskets or similar. For this, they can be used whole, and they usually last quite a long time. Another type is decoration with carved pumpkins. Laughing and grim-looking pumpkins are a welcome change for every visitor who passes by the lovingly decorated house entrance.

Pumpkin Recipes

"Whether the exterior is still used or not: pumpkin flesh has become increasingly popular in our kitchens. Pumpkin cream soup, in particular, is a highlight on the table. For this you need:

- One pound of pumpkin flesh
- 2-3 potatoes
- One leek stalk
- 40g butter
- One liter of water and a vegetable broth cube, as well as salt and pepper.

Pumpkin and potatoes are diced after peeling, and the leek is cut into strips. Heat the butter and sauté the vegetables in it. Add the water with the broth cube and season with the spices. Let everything cook until soft for about half an hour. Then puree and garnish – bon appétit."
