Build garden paths

Garden paths, as diverse as their owners

"Before you set about creating garden paths, you should first be clear about the variety of design options. Because there are numerous materials and methods to create permanently beautiful and, above all, safe paths in your garden.

The materials you use depend not only on your own taste but also on the style of your garden.

After all, the garden paths should blend as harmoniously as possible into the overall garden design and emphasize the character of your garden. After planning, start by marking the course of the paths using wooden stakes and string, but don't forget that you also need to consider the width of the edging."

A solid foundation is crucial

"No matter which type of path you choose, the most important thing is that it is as permanently beautiful and, above all, safe as possible. Therefore, it's important that after you have decided on the location and type of your paths, you properly stabilize the subsoil.

Often, it is sufficient to compact the soil underneath, but in most cases, it is necessary to excavate the trench where your paths will later be laid, compact it, and then first cover it with an approximately 10-15cm thick layer of fill sand. This not only creates a good base for paving stones and natural stones but also ensures that rainwater drains away quickly and that you can move forward with dry feet again quickly, even on paths made of bark mulch or pebbles."

A beautiful border can accentuate the path and provide stability

"Whether you want to pave your path or fill it with a pedestrian-friendly material, it's important to provide it with a firm border. This can be done with concrete and a combination of concrete and edging stones, as well as with decorative bricks embedded in the ground or with the help of round timbers and the like. This prevents your garden path from quickly losing its stability and the filling materials from being carried away by wind and weather.

To beautifully accentuate your garden path in the end and also ensure safety in the evening and at night, you can either integrate lighting elements directly into the path surface or work with lights along the edge of the path. Solar lights are particularly quick and easy to install in this case."
