Light Sources Make the Garden More Beautiful!

It's not just during the day that a stroll through the garden is enjoyable. A short walk on a mild summer evening is delightful, as is a walk through the winter garden, even on a dreary day. The green kingdom can look enchanted when snow caps lie on branches and twigs in the cold season. As soon as it gets darker, lighting comes into play. It serves two important purposes. First, all paths need to be sufficiently lit for safe use. Thanks to modern lighting elements, you don't have to skimp on brightness and still won't use too much electricity. Second, the garden gains a special charm once the last rays of sunlight have disappeared. The light sources just need to be cleverly placed.

All paths walked in darkness should be glare-free and sufficiently brightly lit, up to head height. This is so that people's faces can still be recognized. At the same time, steps and differences in ground incline must be clearly visible. Of course, you can use everything from plinth lights to bollard lights to candelabras, and even combine them. That's just a matter of taste. If you can still clearly see where you're stepping, indirect lighting is a beautiful design element. Many small lamps in a border alongside the path create a pleasant atmosphere.

A seating area that is indirectly lit at dusk immediately appears romantic. The lights can be installed under a bench or in nearby flowerbeds. The subtle light invites cozy conversation late into the evening. If you have a pond, you can create very special accents. Underwater lighting in a planted pond makes the watery element appear in a magical glow. If you have fish, you should consider that while artificial light magically attracts the animals, it's not yet sufficiently researched whether it harms them.

A quiet favorite spot, well-shielded by shrubs, tall grasses, or hedges, gains charm from indirect light. As darkness falls, you'll still enjoy sitting here, gazing at the illuminated area. Perhaps a low-mounted beam is directed at your favorite plant. A small stone or clay figure can quietly sit in front of it, keeping silent company.

If you enjoy looking at your garden from the window, ensure coordinated illumination. The gazebo or arbor is subtly lit from within, and garden accents are skillfully highlighted from below. This could be an imposing sculpture, a gnarled old tree, or an overwhelming display of blossoms. Have you covered an area in your garden with grasses? Excellent! Place various sized spheres with internal light sources within it. Even a single color creates an atmospheric ambiance, but there's also nothing against an arrangement in green, orange, and purple. A dry stone wall, partially overgrown with climbers, looks interesting and somewhat mysterious when lit in the dark. Spotlights or small floodlights offer a multitude of variations.

If you want to approach garden lighting professionally, equip your garden with various lighting options that are used differently in different seasons, never all at once. In spring, the first blooms can be illuminated; in summer, colorful flower heads are ideal. Various leaf structures are also grateful elements, such as the feathery fronds of a fern or the striking foliage of a maple. In autumn, lighting enhances the fantastic discoloration of deciduous trees, as well as the visual impact of typical fruits and berries. In winter, it's worthwhile to illuminate evergreen plants and especially winter bloomers. Even clear and simple structures like frosted branches have their own charm and can appear in a different, artificial light.

Every garden owner holds the power to showcase their botanical artistry even better. Dusk and darkness are no enemies in this endeavor!
