Eisenkraut - Planting in a Container

Verbena is available in many varieties in various color shades (such as white, blue, orange, pink-violet) in stores. For container gardens and balcony boxes, the smaller varieties that grow hanging or creeping are particularly suitable.
Choose a container with a drainage hole to prevent waterlogging.
Before filling the pot with fresh flower or balcony plant soil from a garden center, cover the hole to prevent it from clogging.

The summer flower is planted without its old pot, as it should root through the fresh soil with new roots. This way, it can supply itself well with nutrients and moisture in the coming period.
To encourage new root growth, it is recommended to loosen the root ball a little, especially if the verbena has already heavily rooted through the old pot.

Before planting, it is also advisable to thoroughly hydrate the plant. The easiest and most thorough way to do this is by immersing the entire root ball in water until no more air bubbles rise.

Now, place the plant into the new container. When it comes to planting depth, simply follow how the plant was previously potted: it should neither be higher nor lower in the soil.

Keep in mind that in container gardening, the plants have limited access to nutrients due to the restricted root space, so they should be fertilized accordingly. Please refer to the instructions on your soil packaging: some substrates are already enriched with a nutrient supply. Otherwise, buy fertilizers from a specialist store and start fertilizing a few weeks after repotting, following the recommendations on the packaging.

Once you have filled enough soil (about 1 cm below the top edge of the container), water the soil gently. This way, you can check if more soil is needed, and any gaps in the substrate will close.

In total, make sure not to add too much soil, so that the watering doesn't overflow the container.

Verbena thrives best in a sunny location. Most varieties bloom from June to October, depending on the weather and location.

Keep the soil in the pot consistently lightly moist; it should never dry out completely. Water as needed (the top layer of soil may dry out a little).
