The Garden House – Living Room Feel in the Garden

A garden house belongs in every large garden. While garden houses were once only used as storage spaces for garden tools, today they are small oases where you can not only enjoy the view of the garden but much more.

Even though bicycles, garden tools, and furniture can find shelter in the garden house, they are also commonly used for summer parties or cozy evenings with friends.

The garden house in your own garden

Anyone who decides to have a garden house has definitely made the right choice. A garden house in your own garden not only offers additional storage space but also provides the opportunity to enjoy the garden when the weather doesn't cooperate. When friends come over, the garden house can quickly be transformed into a party venue and used for garden parties. However, if you want to place a garden house in your garden, you should first visit the local municipality. This will save you trouble and potential consequences if the garden house is too large, made of the wrong materials, or placed in the wrong location. Location, material, and size are important factors that determine whether the garden house needs approval from the local authorities. Therefore, a garden house should be carefully planned and legally secured before being built. It is also important to consider whether the garden house is to be built on your own property or in a small garden settlement, as there are different regulations for each that should be discussed and clarified beforehand to avoid any issues.

A solid foundation is key

For the garden house to be optimally used and last a long time, the foundation is particularly important. Garden houses are available as ready-made kits in specialist stores, and often the floor of the garden house is already included. For a prefabricated garden house, it is sufficient to level and compact the ground where the garden house will be placed. Compaction is especially important to prevent moisture from entering the garden house, which could lead to mold or rot. If the foundation is not included in the prefabricated kit, there are several options for creating a solid foundation. The area beneath the garden house can be paved, or the base can be poured with concrete. A strip foundation allows for optimal ventilation of the soil and ensures that the garden house doesn’t get wet feet. For wooden garden houses, it is always advisable to protect the garden house from moisture in any form. This includes an eaves overhang, a rain gutter, and the right coating. Only then is the garden house protected from weather influences and will bring lasting joy.

Versatile Uses

A garden house can be a real asset when it is built and maintained properly. Garden houses come in a variety of sizes, with windows, multiple doors, and even proper terraces. There are no limits to creativity, as long as the budget allows. Depending on the available space in the garden and what can be built, a garden house can become much more than just a sheltered place for garden tools and the like. For example, a garden house is also an excellent option for a sauna. When using electrical technology, however, the hobby gardener should either have their own expertise in electrical installations or consult a professional. This is especially important to prevent cable fires or worse accidents. Once these requirements are met, the garden house can make life in the garden even more enjoyable. Whether it's a garden party or a cozy summer evening with the family – a garden house brings a homely feeling to the garden and makes those outdoor evenings just a little bit more special.
