Order in the Garden

For enthusiastic hobby gardeners, a year in the garden often means accumulating quite a collection of devices, tools, and machines. To ensure these are stored as neatly as bicycles, play equipment, garden furniture, firewood, and trash cans, garden centers and DIY stores offer a true arsenal of useful and attractive aids.

In this article, we'll tell you what you truly need and what you can safely forget.

Small Gardens Need Especially Good Planning

Especially in small gardens, you need to make the most of your space to fit everything without making the garden feel overcrowded. It's a real win if you can find solutions with additional functions, allowing you to kill several birds with one stone, so to speak.

For example, bicycle garages, whether freestanding or leaning against a house or wall, can often house not just bikes, but also your lawnmower, shovel, rake, watering can, and other tools.

For better handling and convenience, it's best to store bicycles as close to the house as possible. This makes them quick to access, especially in the rain, and you won't have to lug shopping bags far.

Optimizing Garages and Garden Sheds

Sometimes a garage can offer more than meets the eye at first glance. Thoughtful furnishing can immensely improve its utility. Narrow metal or wooden shelves, like those found in cellars, can hold garden supplies such as pots, soil, seeds, as well as paint cans, brushes, and much more. Appropriate hooks on the walls of a garage or garden shed can also be helpful, as rakes, spades, and other garden tools are then quickly at hand.

Even a greenhouse can have a designated corner for space-saving storage of accessories. However, caution is advised in the greenhouse: anything sensitive to moisture should only be stored there if completely dry and hermetically sealed, otherwise, mildew and mold are a risk.

If you only need to store a few items and have limited space, consider a tool cabinet. Especially when placed on a covered patio, there's often enough room for garden tools, furniture, and cushions.

DIY Tip

If you're building your own storage solution, remember to let the roof overhang generously. This way, you can safely store firewood underneath the roof on the weather-protected side, or easily expand the structure with additional tool cabinets if needed.
