Flying Easter Cups

Flying saucers are well-known to us from the little green men from outer space. But flying Easter cups? Yes, they exist. Because boring Easter decorations are a thing of the past – today, it’s all about flying Easter cups.

Of course, you don’t have to stick to just cups for your floating Easter decorations. Small vases or anything that can hold plants and be hung up will work just as well. Most people already have the materials they need at home:

• Small containers (espresso cups, milk jugs, etc.)
• Empty and cleaned chicken eggs
• Packing tape in various colors
• Early bloomers
• Small colorful wooden beads
• Cut flowers

A Threaded Affair

In order for the saucer and co. to be able to fly, small swings need to be made first. The packing tape is used for this. Cut 4 equal lengths of string (about 160 cm) and gather them in the middle so that the bottom part has 8 strands, and the top can be tied into a loop to serve as the hanging part. Now, the knotting begins. Lay the strings flat on the table and divide the ribbons into four pairs of two. About 30-40 cm from the hanging knot, tie a knot in each pair. Small wooden beads can be tied in between.
Now take the ends of the pairs of two, spread them out, and knot each with a neighboring string at about 2 cm distance at the same height as the first knot row. Repeat this with each neighboring string a third time and tie a final knot from the ends of the eight strings to create a secure net.

When Cups Learn to Fly

The knotted nets can then be filled with the cups and eggshells. These form the containers for the bulb plants and cut flowers. The cups and eggshells can be filled with potting soil, and the bulb plants can be planted inside. If you have divided a primrose, you can also plant that little plant in a cup or eggshell. Don’t forget to water before planting so the little plants can establish well. Small vases can serve as a flying home for cut flowers and can also be hung in the nets.
