The White African Lily is an elegant perennial known for its striking, pure white flower globes, adding a Mediterranean flair to the garden.

Growth

Clump-forming, evergreen perennial. Grows 60-90 cm (2-3 ft) tall (flower stalks) and 45-60 cm (1.5-2 ft) wide.

Leaf

Long, strap-like, glossy green leaves forming an attractive basal clump.

Flower

Pure white, trumpet-shaped flowers appearing in large, spherical clusters on tall, strong stalks. Blooms from June to August (sometimes September). Attracts bees.

Location

Prefers full sun; tolerates light partial shade. A sheltered spot is beneficial.

Frost hardiness

Moderately hardy (USDA Zones 8-10, down to approx. -12°C / 10°F). In colder regions (like Brandenburg), overwinter frost-free (e.g., in pots, in a cool, bright place).

Location

Requires well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Absolutely avoid waterlogging.

Water

Medium water requirement. Water regularly during the growing season; very sparingly in winter.

Use

Ideal as a container plant for patios and balconies, in beds as a solitary plant or in groups, in Mediterranean-style gardens. Also excellent as a cut flower.

Care

Low maintenance. Remove spent flower stalks. Requires winter protection outdoors or frost-free overwintering. Thrives better when slightly root-bound in pots.

Planting time

Best planted in spring (April-May) after the last frost. Containerized plants can be planted during the frost-free period.
