The Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) is a very popular, evergreen container plant whose orange-yellow fruits have a sweet, exotic flavour. Its decorative flowers appear from September to November. They exude a pleasant fragrance. The dark green leaves are lanceolate. The location should be as sunny to semi-shady as possible. Well-drained and loose soil is ideal. In favourable conditions, the Loquat reaches a height of approx. 3 m and grows up to 2.5 m wide.

Flower

Eriobotrya japonica forms creamy white flowers from September. These exude a pleasant fragrance.

Eriobotrya japonica forms orange-yellow fruits with a sweet, exotic flavour. Ripening time from February.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Frost hardiness

Frost-free overwintering at 10 to 15°C is required.

Standard container plant soil.

Use

Container, solitary, conservatory, balcony/terrace

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

Over time, the soil loses some of its important properties. The plants should therefore be transplanted into a larger pot with fresh container plant soil every two years in spring.
