The Siberian Iris 'Snow Crest' is a graceful, beardless iris cultivar, adding an elegant touch to the garden with its pure white flowers and fine growth habit. It's a very robust and low-maintenance perennial that blends well into naturalistic plantings.

Growth

Upright, clump-forming. Typically reaches a height of approx. 0.8 - 1.0 m (2.6-3.3 ft) and spreads about 0.5 - 0.6 m (1.6-2 ft) wide.

Leaf

Deciduous, narrow, sword-shaped, and an attractive blue-green. They form dense, grass-like clumps.

Flower

Elegant, pure white, beardless flowers with a delicate yellow marking at the base of the falls. Blooms appear from May to July.

Location

Prefers full sun to partial shade.

Frost hardiness

Very good frost hardiness (down to approx. -28°C, USDA Zone 5). Reliably overwinters outdoors.

Soil

Moist to fresh, well-drained, humus-rich, and nutrient-rich soil. Tolerates acidic to neutral soils. Good drainage is essential; avoid waterlogging.

Use

Ideal for perennial borders, moist meadows, pond edges, stream banks, and as a cut flower. Also very effective in mass plantings.

Water

Medium to high water requirement. The soil should be kept consistently moist, especially during the blooming period and dry spells. Established plants can tolerate drier conditions better.

Care

Very low maintenance. Spent flower stalks can be removed after blooming. Dividing established clumps every few years (in late summer/early autumn) promotes vigor and flowering.

Planting time

Containerized plants can be planted year-round, except when the ground is frozen. However, the best planting time is spring or autumn.

Others

Iris rhizomes can be poisonous if ingested.
