The Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea) is a creeping, winter-green perennial that forms purple, lip-shaped flowers arranged in whorls from March to May. Its roundish, crenate leaves are dark green. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 15 cm and grows to a width of approx. 50 cm. The Ground ivy is well tolerant of frost.

Water

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- If the plant is divided every 2-3 years and weak roots and shoots are removed, the reward is better growth and flowering vigour!
- If the plant is watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.
