'Rosakönigin' is a beautiful and compact cultivar of woodland sage, highly valued for its abundant, spikes of vibrant rose-pink flowers. This robust and long-blooming perennial adds continuous color and a vertical accent to sunny borders, attracting pollinators throughout the summer.

Growth

An upright, bushy, clump-forming herbaceous perennial. It typically reaches 40-50 cm (16-20 inches) in height and 30-40 cm (12-16 inches) in spread, forming a neat mound.

Leaf

Features aromatic, textured, grey-green foliage that remains attractive throughout the growing season.

Flower

Produces numerous upright spikes of densely packed, small, vibrant rose-pink flowers held above purplish bracts. It blooms profusely from late spring through late summer (May to September), with deadheading encouraging rebloom.

Location

Thrives best in full sun for optimal flowering and compact growth. It can tolerate very light partial shade, but flowering may be reduced.

Frost hardiness

Excellent (USDA Zones 4-9), making it very cold-hardy and adaptable to a wide range of climates.

Soil

Prefers well-drained, average to fertile soil. It is highly tolerant of various soil types, including sandy or loamy, and is drought-tolerant once established.

Water

Has a low to medium water requirement. It is quite drought-tolerant once mature but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells.

Use

Ideal for perennial borders, cottage gardens, rock gardens, mass plantings, or containers. Its upright habit and long bloom time make it excellent for providing continuous color and attracting bees and butterflies.

Care

Low maintenance. Deadhead spent flower spikes regularly to promote continuous blooming. A light shearing after the first flush of flowers can encourage a bushier habit and more rebloom.

Planting time

Best planted in autumn or early spring.
