The Red bistort 'Speciosa' (Bistorta amplexicaulis) is an upright, clump-forming perennial that produces scarlet-red flowers arranged in panicles from August to October. Its lanceolate leaves are dark green. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 1 m and is approx. 1 m wide. The Red bistort 'Speciosa' is well tolerant of frost.

Growth

Upright, clump-forming. Slow-growing.

The deciduous leaves of the Red bistort 'Speciosa's are dark green, lanceolate.

Flower

Bistorta amplexicaulis 'Speciosa' forms scarlet-red flowers arranged in panicles from August.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Care

- If the plant is divided every 2-3 years and weak roots and shoots are removed, the reward is better growth and flowering vigour!
- If the plant is watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.
