The Himalayan maidenhair fern (Adiantum venustum) with its feathery, light green leaf fronds is a decorative design element in the garden. It feels most at home in a semi-shady location with a well-drained, humus-rich, lime-free soil. In favourable conditions, this hardy fern reaches a height of approx. 50 cm and grows up to 60 cm wide.

Growth

Creeping, overhanging.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The wintergreen leaves of the Himalayan maidenhair ferns are light green, pinnate.

Location

Preferred location in partial shade.

Frost hardiness

The Himalayan maidenhair fern has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Standard container plant soil.
Normal soil.

Use

Tubs, rock garden, ground cover, woodland edge, undergrowth

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

- If watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
- This plant should not be cut back in autumn, as it looks pretty in winter or the dead plant parts serve as winter protection. Only prune in spring before new shoots appear.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).

Tasks

Pruning: In the period from January to February.
