The Red bistort (Bistorta amplexicaulis) is an upright, clump-forming perennial that produces scarlet-red flowers arranged in panicles from July to October. Its lanceolate leaves are medium green in colour. In a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 1.2 m and grows to a width of approx. 60 cm. Care

- If the plant is divided every 2-3 years and weak roots and shoots are removed, the reward is better growth and flowering vigour!
- If the plant is watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.

Large garden water-east, purple coneflower, garden china reed.

Planting time
