The Hart's tongue fern (Asplenium scolopendrium) with its glossy, linear, light green leaf fronds is a decorative design element in the garden. It feels most at home in a semi-shady to shady location with a well-drained, humus-rich, calcareous soil. In favourable conditions, this hardy fern reaches a height of approx. 60 cm and grows up to 40 cm wide.

Growth

Upright, funnel-shaped.

Leaves

High leaf ornamental value. The evergreen leaves of the Hart's tongue ferns are light green, linear, glossy, wavy.

Location

Preferred location in semi-shady to shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Hart's tongue fern has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Normal soil.

Use

Pond edge, undergrowth, shade

Water

The plant needs plenty of water. Do not allow the soil to dry out.

Care

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Watering less frequently, but thoroughly and thoroughly, encourages the plant roots to penetrate deeper into the soil. This enables the plant to survive dry periods better.

Planting partner

The Hart's tongue fern sets beautiful accents together with:
Common hazelwort, veined arum, Turk's cap lily.

Planting time

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen and in summer heat (over 30°C).
