The Purple mullein (Verbascum phoeniceum) is an upright, rosette-like, winter-green perennial that forms purple-red, cupped flowers arranged in panicles from May to June. Its lanceolate leaves are medium green in colour. In a sunny location with well-drained, nutrient-rich soil, it usually grows to a height of approx. 1 m and is approx. 40 cm wide. The Purple mullein is well tolerant of frost.
