The Gooseberry 'Invicta' (Ribes uva-crispa) produces light green, medium-sized berries. Sweet and sour in flavour, the Gooseberry 'Invicta' is firm and has a barely hairy skin. Well-drained, loose, nutrient-rich soil and a sunny to semi-shady location create the ideal conditions for a high-yielding harvest from mid-July. Its white flowers are a beautiful sight.

Growth

Gooseberry 'Invicta' is an upright-growing small shrub with a translucent crown. It usually reaches a height of 0.6 - 1.2 m and is approx. 0.6 - 1.2 m wide. It usually grows 10 - 30 cm per year.

Shoots

The shoots of Ribes uva-crispa 'Invicta' are spiny.

The deciduous leaves of Gooseberry 'Invicta' are medium green in colour. Gooseberry 'Invicta' turns bright yellow in autumn.

Bark

Brown, smooth bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.

Flower

The white flowers appear from April to May.

Fruit

The light green, medium-sized berries have a sweet and sour flavour. The translucent flesh is firm; the skin is barely hairy. Ripening time from mid-July.

Location

Preferred location in a sunny to semi-shady position.

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

- A slow-release fertiliser can be used in spring. This releases the nutrients slowly and continuously so that the plant is evenly supplied over a longer period of time.
- Prune back vigorously in winter so that the plant grows bushy and produces even more flowers in the coming season.
