The Lily-of-the-valley (Smilacina racemosa) is an upright, rhizome-forming perennial that produces white, star-shaped flowers arranged in panicles with a light fragrance from May to June. Its pinnate leaves are medium green. In a semi-shady to shady location with well-drained soil, it usually reaches a height of approx. 60 cm and is approx. 30 cm wide. The Lily-of-the-valley is well tolerant of frost.

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

- If the plant is divided every 2-3 years and weak roots and shoots are removed, the reward is better growth and flowering vigour!
- If the plant is watered less frequently but thoroughly and penetratingly, the plant roots are encouraged to penetrate into deeper soil layers. This helps the plant to survive periods of drought.
- This perennial should be cut back in autumn / late autumn when the plant begins to shrivel up.
